Forum: general Subject: Re: site archive found - but then lost

I think we have entered the Rod Serling Zone. I switched to another computer. From the Archive.Org search page I launched a new search.

The results page showed the expected list of dates in the archive. Very promising.

But when I clicked on one of those dates, I got the NEW web site, not the archive. Same regardless of which date I chose. Cue the theme music.

Is it from there that you did the F5? I've tried it 10 times and also tried a CTRL-F5 - but even though my status bar claims it is loading the Archive page, and the URL field shows it is a web.archive.org/web/ etc. page, it displays the new live page.

How can this be?

And then, the next F5 got me the Archive.Org page saying, "Not in Archive."

Is there anyone monitoring these forums who has access to Archive's Tech Support to figure out what is happening? Or more important, to figure out how to see the archived pages?

Thanks again for your help

I actually work here at the archive, although not in the Wayback group. I've already sent an email to one of the Wayback engineers, so hopefully they'll be able to figure out what's going on.

Alexis,

Thanks for your help. I have been trying everything I can, inluding parsing the URL and switching browsers, dumping cache, etc., to get it to display the old site but nothing works.

FWITW, I am in New York, my client is in Los Angeles - and neither of us can see the old site.

So it clearly is not machine or browser or ISP related.

Well, Alexis, you have a magic wand. The archived site is now accessible again.

Thank you for your help!
